A hydraulic workshop press is built for heavier industrial use, with a thicker steel frame, a higher tonnage range, and a proper hydraulic pump system rather than a simple bottle jack setup. A simple shop press is fine for light benchwork. The workshop press is good for production or heavy repair work.
For general automotive work, pressing bearings, bushings, and straightening shafts, 25 ton handles most of it. The 40-ton gets you more column clearance (950×350 vs 800×250), which matters more than the extra tonnage for some work. Check your largest component against the column width first.
Hand operation gives you much finer control on delicate work, pressing a bearing into a tight housing where a few millimetres matter. Power operation is faster for repetitive work where precision doesn’t matter. Most users end up using both depending on the job at hand.
That’s two different configurations at the same tonnage. The first 150 ton (750×200 column distance) appears to be an older or compact variant; the second (1250×600) is the full-size production model with 200mm RAM to bed and 350mm power stroke. For light bracket forming and small structural parts, the 40-60 ton range gives you the column clearance and stroke length for most fabrication work without the footprint and cost of the heavier models. Check your largest part dimensions against the column distance spec.

The steel grade and frame welding quality show up after six months of use, not in week one. Cheaper presses often use thinner gauge steel that flexes under load; you won’t see it, but your work comes out slightly inconsistent.
